The painting "The Pines" was inspired while hunting for "bucks" with my flintlock, "Old Jacob."  A big-racked buck was about 25 yards from me among many pine limbs.  I wasn't sure enough of the points, so I didn't take a shot.  Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, has a "four-point to one side" regulation.

The painting titled "Laurel Flush" shows a flock of turkeys flushing from among the mountian laurel blossoms: Pennsylvania's state flower.  I wonder what startled them?

Colors explode from the old tree roots. The brook trout is hungry. "Coldwater Brookie" shows a trophy chasing a fly fisherman's creation. Will the fish take the fly?

Many times I have tramped the creek bottoms to find the tracks of a fox.  "Along the Stream-Red Fox" shows this creature of beauty staring the viewer down while following the bottomland in search of food.

"Back to Moraine - Osprey" was painted in regards to the reintroduction of the osprey to the Moraine State Park area of Butler County.  I have been fortunate to see ospreys a number of times along the Allegheny River and Crooked Creek.  Seeing this "fish hawk" is always a thrill.

Cold, clear trout streams, loaded with minnows makes for a trout fisherman's dream.  "Coldwater Rainbow" shows such a stream...Minnows and rainbow trout dappled with filtered sunlight.

"Wood Duck in Gold" depicts a male wood duck lazily setting on the water while the morning hues of sunrise reflect on the waters.  This species of ducks is one of the most beautiful!

"Allegheny Ridge Whitetails" was inspired while searching local ridges for any bear sign.  The Allehgeny River flows down through the valleys making for a very scenic adventure.

"Screech Owl and Chickadees" is a sight that I often witness in my backyard.  The little owls use a nesting box that I erected.  Everything from chickadees, robins, blue jays, and cardinals scold and torment them daily.

"Old Farm Turkeys" shows a rapidly-vanishing scene of American heritage: old traditional barns and farmland.  The advertising, once painted on barns, is soon to be only part of our past.  The turkeys, oblivious to the ad, enjoy some springtime activities.

One of my favorite places to hunt deer is in pine thickets.  "Frosty Morning Whitetails" shows one such area...pines, snow and deer: a deer lover's paradise.

"Rock Ledge Falcons" shows the peregrine falcons enjoying a late-spring day.  This bird is slowly making a comeback from the years of DDT usage.

"Brown Trout" is a painting of a trout sulking around an old snag.  The trout's size will continue to increase as fishermen try and lose their flies and lures in the shadowy depths...

I always enjoy viewing black bears in the wild.  The beauty of glistening fur and the elusive nature truly amazes me.  "Springtime Blackies" shows a mother bear with her cubs amidst a typical forest scene.  Also, within the painting a box turtle and jack-in-the-pulpit can be discovered.  This painting appeared on a cover of the "Mountain Journal" magazine.

There are a few areas near me when, for a short period each spring, the forest floor looks like snow.  The time of trillium blossoms!  "Trillium Ridge Showdown" allows for two longbeard gobblers to meet and possibly find out just who does own the ridge.

All we long for is a time when all are at peace.  Two deer captivated by the warm glow of Christmas candles and all is well..."Peace on Earth."

I wish this species of hare was more common in Pennsylvania.  They are located in some of the more mountainous areas of the state.  Their ability to change to white in winter is a survival trait known to only a small number of animals and birds.  "Snowshoe Hare and Chickadee" depicts a friendly encounter during a snow.

"In the Aspens - Woodcock Family" shows a favorite springtime bird of mine.  I remember my father teaching me about this bird's mating antics in the abandoned fields by my home.  Recently, I had the opportunity to see a mother woodcock and her three young.

"Smokey and the Snowman" is a whimsical painting showing an uncertain meeting between a black bear and a snowman.

Grouse hunters know well the startled seconds when a "Ruffed Grouse" erupts from among the vines.  This painting shows a grouse perched on a downed tree, ready for anything.

Seeing turkeys "Flying Through" is a sight of awe.  How birds of this size get into the air and go from one hill to the other with grace amaze me.

A painting to put a smile on a turkey hunter.  Ornaments are placed on the limbs of the spruce to decorate for the holidays.  A lone gobbler, thinking apples, begins to peck at the "Christmas Fruit!"

As the fall day begins to wind down, the "Bottom Land Whitetails" slowly edge towards the field. The two deer pause briefly to watch the distant farmer before proceeding across the field.

Some of my fondest memories stem from my boyhood days along the trout streams.  "Boy's First Trout", shows such a seen as a young boy reaches for his first catch, a native brook trout.

One of the most beautiful game birds is the male pheasant. The bird is covered in variable colors and patterns making for a most striking site. In the painting, "Grasslands Splendor", the male in all his mating splendor is viewed walking about  the grassy home.

Morning rays permeate the forest's canopy. The turkeys cautiously approach the "Golden Meadow", as the deer pause to enjoy the early sun's warmth.

Cool autumn days, colored leaves and echoing bugles of the bull from across the hollow spell one thing for the elk...the mating season! "Cool Autumn Elk" depicts one such morning with the "King of the Ridge" bugling for his harem to gather.

The early morning sun gently warms the waters of the lake. "Morning Gold - Greater Scaup" depicts a few of these birds flying in the golds of the morning.

A beautiful summer day with birds and butterflies. "Garden Variety" shows a house wren, hummingbird, robin and a monarch butterfly enjoying the day.

"Field Birds" shows a flock of gobblers and some bluebirds during the spring courtship rituals.  Both species of birds use fields for food, nesting and various other activities.

The autumn season means one thing to the whitetail deer...the mating season. Here a mature "buck" is trusitng his instincts while he chases a couple of does.  "Autumn Whitetails" depicts a typical autumn day during the deer's mating season.

Obviously, one of my favorite "critters" are the white-tailed deer.  "Autumn Majesty" depicts a handsome buck and doe emerging from the shelter of the woods.  The big buck, however, has sensed something looking at him.
